The other evening, my husband was watching a sporting event on the Jumbotron in our living room when I placed a bowl of Dip on the coffee table. He smiled as he realized that his game just turned into a Party.
Want to have a party? All you have to do is break out some Dip!
The problem with Dip is two fold. Dips are made with high fat mayonnaise, cream cheese, and sour cream. Then unfortunately, one needs a means to transport the dip to the mouth and that traditionally means Potato Chips or Tortilla Chips.
Here are some really delicious Dips that no one will know are healthy – as calling something a Healthy Dip would be the kiss of death at your party. These Dips are actually better when you use vegetables as the chips. Put out a basket of chips as well if you feel as if you have to, but if you are creative with your vegetable choices, people will go for the vegetable chips!
I have three great dips that I make that you could serve anywhere and I promise they will be the first bowls to be emptied. My Tuscan White Bean Dip is thick and rich with garlic and rosemary flavor. My version of Blue Cheese Dip that is so good it will make your toes curl – it’s secret ingredient is Greek Yogurt. Last is my no brainer French Onion Dip that is the same dip you have made for years using a packet of dried onion soup mix but instead of sour cream and mayonnaise, use Greek Yogurt!
Now for the chips – the tiny red yellow and orange mini sweet peppers are the perfect dipper. They are crisp and delicious. Along with an English cucumber cut into thin ovals, you need nothing more. I have listed a few other that work well if you feel ambitious and want to create a display.
- Baby yellow, orange, red peppers
- Broccoli florets
- Carrots: baby or sticks
- Cauliflower florets
- Celery sticks
- Campari tomato halves
- Green beans
- Snow peas
Dip is still a happy place – even without potato chips!
