The Plan

Are you concerned that over time you have STRETCHED your bariatric pouch?

We understand how you feel and it’s scary. Use our 48 Hour Pouch plan to clear out the bad choice foods that you are eating again (that’s the Reset!) and then follow the guidelines for the Test.

The 48 HOUR POUCH RESET for Bariatric Eating

Our reset has shown tens of thousands of people where they stand and it will work for you too!

We get more ‘thank you’ email over this one than anything we’ve done in over fifteen years of helping bariatric post ops. You will experience an overwhelming feeling of relief and joy when you feel your pouch resistance working. It is super simple too. Try it… it works!

Awesome Customer Reviews

“I am 10 years post RNY, can eat anything and have gained 35 pounds! Help? After my reset, I couldn’t even eat half of my chicken. I jumped on The Inspire Diet to get back on track and have lost eight pounds in two weeks!”

“I’m 3 years out and had a 30 pound gain. I did the 48 Hour Pouch Reset and then have been doing 4 Inspire shakes and 2 high protein meals for a month on The Inspire Diet. I’m down 15 pounds. This is an awesome group!”

Why This Will Work for You!

We would all like a magic pill where we could eat what we want and never have to think about weight again, but that’s not reality. The truth is that naturally slim people think about their food and choices all the time. The intent of our 48 Hour Pouch Test is for you to see that your pouch STILL provides resistance when you choose the right foods.

The chicken is not magic… THE MAGIC IS INSIDE YOU! It’s been there all along. The Pouch Test renews confidence that you still have a valuable tool that will allow you to control hunger, volume, and your weight with Five Small Meals a day of lean protein and vegetables.

You can do this! We are here to help.

FAQ’s for the 48 Hour Pouch Reset

1. Can I have vegetables or sauce with my chicken?

NO, please read EVERYTHING again as you are missing the point. This isn’t supposed to be a ‘fun meal’ or a ‘delicious meal’, you are supposed to sit alone and THINK while you eat moist solid protein to FEEL the restriction in an attempt to IDENTIFY the resistance you have been ignoring. It’s meant to be a few minutes of serious self awareness.

2. What if I CAN’T eat chicken?

IF you cannot eat chicken, you can skip this part and go directly to The Inspire Diet, AS YOU ALREADY KNOW YOU HAVE POUCH RESISTANCE. Congratulations, your pouch works!

3. I am a vegetarian, what can I eat instead of chicken?

You need to choose a firm or solid protein source such as Boca Burgers, grilled Tempeh, firm Tofu, or an Omelet instead. Everything else is the same.

4. Whew, I finally got all that chicken down but it took me almost an hour. Now what?

Again, you have missed the point of the test and reset. The idea is NOT to sit there and power through and consume all the chicken no matter how long it takes, you are supposed to sit and think while you eat and STOP when you begin to feel as if you don’t really want any more. Start over and try it again.

      • Mary says:

I am 20 years out, I go up and I go down. I gained my most weight when I quit smoking. I am “up” right now and trying to get back. You are not a failure, just keep trying to eat the right foods. If you need support this looks to be a great place to get it. Don’t give up! You got this!

          Hi Dawn,
I am 16 years out and gained 120 pounds, my Arthritis in my knees, hips and back are killing me slowly, not to mention the weight, want to work together?

      • Pat says:

Hi Mary, just now reading your post of January 27, 2016. I am only 3 years out and regained 30 pounds. Talk about feeling like a failure. Will start the reset tomorrow. Would really like to hear from you and about you.

      • Judith Freeman says:

I am out ten years. I have gained probably 46 lbs. back from losing 150. I am unable to exercise as I fell 9/13/13 and broke my thigh bone, tore up my coomplete knee replacement, sprained my wrist and tore my rotator cuff. Missed my head as it landed in the flower bed! I beleive my puch is still operating, I just need to get busy and lose 50 lbs and in doing so I believe I will be in less pain and not loving on pain pills each day. I was shocked with a lady I know came up to me and said, “oh, i am so sorry you have gained all the weight you lost, back. I have still lost 100 lbs but need that 50 off. I am worried about losing hair again. It is so thin now.

        • Cathy says:

Wonder how many of us had hair loss? My hair still a little thin 7 years out. I still don’t understand how we can gain weight without stomachs! Intestines pull calories? I figured everything went thru pretty quick. I need to relive 0 lb.

    • Shari Hughes says:

HELP!! I just purchased a case of protein drinks to start my 48 Hour Pouch Reset. It seems very simple to follow, but am I allowed to drink water during this time? I am expecting my drinks today, so a quick response would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

      • Susan Leach says:

Yes, drink as much of the zero calorie beverages as you would like… this is meant to be a liquid cleanse of sorts fueled by protein drinks. The intent is to clean out the garbage we have allowed back into our diets. 🙂 SML

        • Shari says:

Thank you Susan, I can’t wait to get started. My Believe Protein drinks arrived yesterday. You were the inspiration for me to have RNY in the first place. I happened to see your book in 2004 and read it in one day, called the doctor the next day, and had my surgery 8-5-04. Had severe complications within 2 weeks, wound up in the hospital for 3 weeks, a few days in the SICU with a pneumothorax. Yet would do it all over again. Just need to lose about 25 lbs. Thank God I found this site.

Oh my goodness…I had the surgery 11 years ago Jan 2004. Lost 240 lbs over 5 years and i was down to 172 and felt pregnant in 2009 and couldn’t find the motivation until now to reset my mind and get myself back on track for me…and to show my beautiful 5 year old daughter that we can be healthy together. No better motivator than an assertive 5 year old to help keep mommy on track.

Can you help me out some I only lost 60 pounds all together an now I have gained 20 or more back. The lap band Haas been deem a failure on its part. Not mine. I exercise try to watch what I eat the. The unthinkAble comes heartburn from bell then throw up for up to two weeks at a time then it’s like liquids liquids an I d o better an eat even less exercises daily for 30 mins plus all my muscles r tighting still not looking gaining. I had mylap band in 2010 May . Doctor suggested taking band out an get the gastric bypass but I dint want to go under the knife again an insurance won’t pay. Can t talk know e a loan etc. I really am a a surpass not sure what directions I should go in. Just so tired of trying an nothing hopefully u can help me with ur opinions however taking the band out is not an option right now . Can u help? If not sorry to bother you

    • Beth says:

if your band has failed, your insurance company will usually pay to have it removed and a different surgery. Have the prior authorization girl write a letter to them for you, have your bariatric doctor tell them about all the throwing up, have an EGD done, there are steps to take in order to get your insurance company to pay. Good luck~

  5. Jerri says:

I did this 48 hour reset and I still don’t have the fullness. I lost 60 lbs after surgery and need 25 more. I am wondering if the 48 hours wasn’t enough time. I did not use your drinks. I used another and I did OK in the liquids but I went right back to eating badly. I am on a limited income and it’s hard for me to actually afford to eat right. Can you help me?

  6. Yolanda juncal says:

Can’t set the 48 hour pouch reset.
I had my surgery in2004 went in at 298 lbs weigh 182.4 now but I don’t want to gain and I go for 182 to 185 up and down at times I can eat a lot and other times very little I would like to lose another 10 or 15 lbs.

  7. Deborah says:

Can’t access the page but have the 48 hour instructions. I need the support. My doctor is disappointed in my loss and I’m too embarrassed to go back to see him.

    • Kimberly says:

Your doctor’s dissapointed and embarrassed over your weight loss? Let me guess, doctor is fit. Just another guess , he has never had a weight problem before? Just another guess, he doesn’t think of food as a obsession / addiction which it clearly is.He should try harder to understand a disease he doesn’t have.

I am 46 years old and it absolutely fascinates end that there are people who do not think of food 24/7. I think of food every second. Like what I’m going to cook, what is on sale. What I can make with leftovers, what I can make and send to husband’s work…and so much more. I can be a pretty good support system if you need a little moral help.

      • ann says:

I am supposed to go in for a one year check up after sleeve surgery the 15th. I dread it. I have lost 80 pounds, but my dr won’t be happy. He says there is no excuse for not losing at least 5 pounds a week. I don’t even want to go.

      • Jessica says:

Kim….great comments….I’m 8 yrs post op and still think about food! I’m not as bad as I was before surgery but still a struggle. Nice to find someone who shares my warped brain….lol!

        • Diana says:

I think all our brains are warped when it comes to food that is why we are all in the same boat… I need to get back on track and go beyond my lowest weight…I really hope this helps me…

    • Susan Maria Leach says:

No we do not make samples. It is expensive to do so. This is pure whey isolate that has no odor or aftertaste blended with natural flavorings… nothing like you have tasted before. Go out on a limb and try a bag and see why these are the hottest products. They are made for bariatric tastes.

      • Wanda Bowie says:

Hi Susan!! Thank you for this valuable information. May I drink a cup of hot coffee with splenda and fat free cream with the 48 hr reset? Or shall it be decaffinated? Thank you in advance!

  11. Lori says:

I had gastric bypass in 2002. Lost 120 pounds but then after a couple years started gaining. I’ve gained about 80 back. I can eat very normally, like a normal person. I am so angry and embarrassed at myself. I feel like a failure.

  12. Debbie says:

My surgery date was 4/30/2008. I made promises to myself that I have not kept. I really need help. We just returned from a Family Reunion. I found myself avoiding cameras as much as I possible, upon on our return as family members started posting pictures on Facebook, I was heart broken at how I have let myself go. I’ve gained 50% of the original weight lost and want to stop the gain and heal the hurts.

I am going to do the 48 hour challenge tomorrow. Feeling hopeful.

  13. judith carter says:

So glad to see this posted. I am 7 years out and have gained back 25 pounds. I only lost 80 to begin with and I was ready to just give up. Then I saw this post. Thank you. I really need this!

  16. Kayla says:

Is this safe to do when pregnant? I am 3 years out and pregnant with my second child my oldest is only 14 months. I have yet to get the weight off that I put on with him plus the 10 pounds that I have gained since then. I’m terrified that I will put on so much more with pregnancy and I want to avoid that at all costs.

  17. missy says:

Could you please email me the 48 hour pouch test. And the back on track plan. Cannot get it to open here.. i am 1 and a half year out of surgery and have plateued and regained 12 lbs. I worry ive stretched my pouch. With the new year i am desperately trying to get back on track.

  18. shirley foley says:

I had a gastric bypass in 2008 went from 264 down to 140. I don’t get help from my husband and I have a set down job, I work 14hrs a day so free time is very slim, I do walk on my lunch time but that’s not enough time to do much for the body and I don’t like to workout much by myself. and now I am back to 221 I need help! I would like to try you 40hour pouch reset.

  19. Jenny says:

Does this work for people who had VSG? I started it today– knowing that I don’t have an actual “pouch,” but a sleeve that wants to be reset.

  20. Annette says:

I had the sleeve in May, 2013. I am still using insulin, but way less than before surgery. I am supposed to take insulin with every regular meal (not with snacks). Should I take insulin during the 48 hour pouch reset? I’m going to be having very few carbs.

    • Renee Martin says:

Pretty much the same here but I’m not seeing anyone with success stories, just alot of us asking questions and looking for answers. I want to know how much people have lost and in his long doing this. How long can we do this, etc.

  21. Rhonda says:

I am 10 years out from a RNY and although i lost over 100 pounds,-start weight at 333lbs, down to 223, now 345lbs… i kept it off for over 7 years, but have gained over 100 pounds in the last 3 years… I need help, I declared that i would never get back to this place and I am miserable….Please help! what do i need to do to get back on track. thank you for any insight or help!

    • Alison Garcia says:

Hi Rhonda. It is indeed frustrating and upsetting when we regain after surgery. The 48 hour reset will help restore confidence in your pouch, and help you get back to basics. Follow the link in the article, and follow the instructions exactly as written. You can do this, have faith and trust in your pouch-it is just waiting for you to put it to work. I would then follow with the Back On Track (BOT) program. It is immensely popular, and has helped so many people beat the regain. It can help you too! Here is the link to BOT.

  22. NIKKI says:

How long after the 48hr reset should you see a loss. I have done the reset plus I’ve been drinking the protein shakes for two weeks now and I thought I would see at least a two pound loss. Should this be a concern or am I just being impatient? Just wondering if I’m not doing something right. Please help. Any advise is greatly appreciated.

    • Renee Martin says:

Oh no 🙁 now in bummed. You’ve been doing this for 2 weeks and nothing? That totally sounds like my luck. I’ve done a couple eat healthy diets and lost maybe 5-10 but then nothing. Did you ever get feed back on your post? Did you end up losing finally with the rest and if so how much?

  23. Dawn says:

I had my bypass approx 4 years ago. Now for the last almost 2 months severe pain in right side of back to front and under diaphragm area can’t eat hardly anything since it started. If i can, it comes back up, change in bowel habits. Usually constipated due to chronic pain and meds I take. could there be an issue from the surgery?

    • says:

go to the doctor I ended up with an incarecerated hernia had to have emergency surgery

  24. Carol says:

Could you please email me the 48 hour pouch reset. I had the surgery in 2001 and regained all but 100 lbs back.

    • Betty says:

I had my surgery 10 years and regain 45 pounds I need help to get it off l need help to get the 48 reset package please

      • Alison Garcia says:

Hi Betty: in the 48 hour pouch reset article, enter your email in the box halfway down the page, and follow the instructions to access the reset. Then, follow it exactly as written, and prepare to be amazed and empowered by what you can accomplish. You can do this!

  25. Kimberly says:

Cannot open the page after confirming email tried on three different browsers how disappointing was excited about this as i am 11 years out and just wanted to do the reset and check on my pouch!

  26. Nancy Schade says:

When I had my RNY twenty years ago ….we didn’t hear about carbs…their focus was on sugars only. Now it is making sense! Thanks for your post

  27. Carol says:

I’m not understanding any of this I want to do with how to reset how many shakes should I drink a day how many ounces what do I mix with what should I order maybe I’m not looking at the right places but I can’t find any of it

  28. michelle says:

I have just started the bot i am on a limited income and i bought a store brand 100%whey isolate protein powder. Is this ok to use. Also i feel very hungry can i drink more than 4 shakes a say. And when is it ok to introduce meal?

  29. monica says:

Its been 13 years since surgery I would love more info on the products , would love to know where to go from here , some reason I am not able to see it all , thank you

  30. Leta says:

I had the band, lost 80lbs it malfunctioned and had removed. 6 mths on own, regained most of my loss. Had the sleeve done, have lost 40lbs in 15 mths, not losing fast at all. I get very frustrated and emotional doing the yoyo thing. I drink protein shake for breakfast and lunch, then balanced dinner. Not able to exercise bad shoulder and bad knee right now. I wish that I could get a spiral loss going, at a loss. I can’t afford the inspire shakes or the food, low income.

    • Flors says:

Its hard for me to walk I also have bad knees and left shoulder bad so sit on the couch exercise legs and arms sit on end of couch lean back do sit ups

  31. Trish says:

I am in the same boat as other people. My doctor has a great track record. I lost weight wonderfully for about 7 months and then had to have a surgery in which I could NOT even walk for 6 weeks. That last time I saw the doctor he was not only disappointed but blamed me for everything. I told him that I’m hungry all the time and snack on the wrong foods. Their measurement of success was “how much of a hamburger” can you eat. I said all of it. They wanted me to go in and have an endoscopy but I didn’t want to go that route. So I’m struggling. I’m a grazer. I don’t eat a lot at a meal but then start to pick and snack later. It’s my choice of snacks that is always the problem. It’s frustrating but I need to get on this pouch test. I tried one before that was successful but it was for 5 days and it was great. I’m going to start with this one but may go back to that one. It is really a good system these pouch tests. With regard to the protein and other products you offer I can’t see why a vitamin packet comes in 20. A month is 30 so what’s the point of offering a 20-day vitamin? And I am OK with paying for the protein drinks, etc. But what I’m unhappy about is the price they charge for shipping. It’s exorbitant!

    • Kelly says:

The 20 pack vitamins are travel/emergency single packs to be thrown in a purse, or kept at work, just incase people forget to take them at home. There were so many people complaining about the price of full bottles with no trial size or free samples, that they came up with that as a solution. Personally I find keeping a few air sealed packs in my desk drawer to be very helpful in a pinch.

As for the shipping price on the products, they are exactly what the companies that ship for them charge. You do have the option of bypassing the more expensive faster shipping and using the ground service. I have not had that option be excessive when I select it to come from my side of the USA, and the time of arrival is realtively fast. I live in Georgia and it arrives in usually 3 to 7 days.

  32. suannedj says:

Today I start the 48hr pouch reset. I had RNY in October 2009 at 265 pounds, down to 140 but gained 50 pounds. Need to buckle down and be accountable for this big slip up. Thank you for accepting me in this group, so far it’s been very informative and has made me feel I can do this.

  33. Angela says:

I’ve read through all the reviews and have not seen any negatives. That makes me apprehensive, because I know how petty people can be. That makes me believe only praise is allowed on this site…I am interested in the product, but would some honest opinions.

  34. Rachael Cameron says:

I had lap band surgery in Italy on March 2009. I lost 85 lbs. I have plateaued at 185-190lbs. I am exhausted from an 70+ hour work week and being a Mom (5 kids). One “normal person” sized meal lasts me all day long (I.e. a chik fil a salad with side of soup). I start every day with a protein drink. I only drink water & unsweetened weak ice tea with lemon. There are Lots of things I simply cannot eat without throwing up. I think the lap band works, but I have 35 more lbs to go & it’s not going away. Anyone have this problem? Any suggestions?

  35. Lisa Serigny says:

Does the 48 hour reset work for a gastric sleeve as well? I don’t have a pouch, I had a smaller stomach but I’m sure almost 3 years post op it’s stretched.

  36. afifer246358 says:

Hey anyone who saw my comment that I would send this to you and I posted my email, please don’t email me. I have been overwhelmed with requests and can no longer support it. If you open the PDF in Google Chrome it works just fine. Good luck with your journey. Sincerely, Alicia Fifer

  37. Klewicki says:

Hi, I don’t think I need to test my pouch as I can barely eat chicken or any meat. 2 bites and I’m done. 10+ years out, about 15 lbs up after 10 years which isn’t so bad I guess, but I would like it gone. I can’t seem to eat a ‘normal’ meal. I take 2 or 3 bites and I’m done, then half hour later I go eat a square of chocolate lol. Then 2 hours later I’ll look for one bite of something else. I just graze all day 2 bites at a time. What is the back on track plan and where do I find it?

  38. Jodie says:

My name is Jodie and I am starting the reset tomorrow. I had a RNY about 15 years ago. When I had surgery there was no form of education or support. I started out at 365 got down to 230 and am now 290. I am SICK of being FAT!!! I am extremely healthy just BIG!!!! My Sister just had the gastric sleeve 6 weeks ago. I have been her major support. I am also very sad and disappointed in myself. I am big because I have hangups I have never dealt with. Usually anyone who is bigger has problems that eat at them emotionally. All of my girlfriends are bigger and have had the gastric sleeve and only one has not had regain. She dealt with her weight demons. So now since I have come to terms with mine it is time for me to try the reset and make life changes. I pray as I start tomorrow that I can find success and I pray for all of you out there struggling too!! I signed up to join the Facebook page and would love to be a form of support for anyone and would love to have support too!!

    • Alison Garcia says:

Hi Kimberly! Any sort of solid vegetable protein would work. A Gardenburger patty, something of that nature would be perfect.

  39. Angel Vick says:

I’m 5 yrs out from bypass surgery. I’ve only gained 10 lbs in that time BUT I needed to lose 10 lbs then to get the mass of skin removed.

I’m planning on starting the reset when I have my colonoscopy next week. Can’t get much cleaner than that!

I am curious if anyone knows if I should watch out for anything or if it’s a bad idea etc.

Part of my problem is that I can’t stomach the shakes, even the smell makes me nauseated. Any tips there?

  40. Yvonne says:

I have tried several times to find the instructions for the 48 hr pouch reset. I’ve filled this form out several times, ugh! Help!

HI, I had my gastric bypass in Dec of2015, have never reached goal weight and have started falling into bad habits again . I’ve lost 100 lbs but have a good 75 more to go thanks

  43. Sherri says:

Will any protein drinks work for the reset. I really need to lose what I have gained 40 and need to get it back off and continue on my weight loss goal.

    • Alison Garcia says:

Hi Sherri, you can use any protein beverage that is relatively low in calories, carbs, and sugar, and high in protein, but definitely give Inspire a try, especially if you are continuing onto Back On Track after the reset. The most successful folks use it, that’s for sure. Not to mention that it’s absolutely delicious and satisfying! Give it a whirl! -Alison

  44. Sacha BradleyRees says:

Does the pouch reset work for the sleeve? A friend of mine said her doctor told her we don’t have a pouch and it will not work? It if it does, it’s just a feeling until you eat one bite too much again? I just bought one of every protein powder and my 3&3’s from you and the protein crunchers in every flavor….I am determined and LOVE your products!!

    • Alison Garcia says:

Hi Sacha, the reset works for ALL of the surgeries, even DS and Lap Band. I am personally banded, and had 100% success with the reset AND shedding my regain- it’s truly an amazing thing! Armed with those supplies, you are going to do amazing things! -Alison

    • Alison Garcia says:

Hi Elizabeth, the reset is intended for those at least a few years out who worry they may have stretched their pouch. It helps reconnect with your satiety cues, and can help pave the way back from bad habits, if that is applicable. If you are only 3 weeks out(I am not sure, based on your wording), it’s a bit early for a reset. Keep pushing, and doing the right things, your stall WILL break. -Alison

Hello I got my lab band surgery in February of 2014 and i have bounced from losing to gaining and I want to get back on track but I can not download the 48 hour pouch reset PLEASE HELP

  47. Amalia says:

Can I add fruit to the shake? I always have a shake with spinach, 1 banana, blueberries and strawberries plus protein powder. I’m wondering if that has to do anything with my weight gain. Not much but still I don’t want it to get out of hand.

    • Marisa Ligons says:

      Hi Amalia!

No fruit should be added to your shakes as part of the reset. Fruits do have carbs, especially bananas which are higher in carbs. A medium banana has about 26g carbs and sugars. So that can certainly be stalling your loss if you are having fruit in your shake. For the reset you want to keep things simple with just your powder and liquid of choice.

  48. Tracy Studt says:

Is the 48 hour pouch reset strictly for RNY? I’m 5 years post sleeve, I originally lost 70+lbs…15lbs shy of my goal weight. I’ve regained 25lbs over the last 3 years. I’m ordering shakes and plan on following the back on track plan. So, would I benefit from the pouch reset?

    • Alison Garcia says:

Hi Tracy, absolutely!!! The reset is perfect for all of us-RNY, Sleeve, Lap Band, and even DS. I am personally 8 years banded, and reconnected with my satiety cues using the reset. You can too!!! -Alison

    • Alison Garcia says:

Hi Sarah, you can prepare your chicken with any dry seasoning or rub. No cheese, no gravy, or other sauces with it. You’re going to do great!!!! -Alison

  49. adele says:

I need a regimen that I can follow . do I drink 8 oz of inspire every three hours untill 3 hours before a dinner consisting of less than a cup of food then drink inspire 3 hrs later if i get hungry? that is a lot .. then how much water do I drink and when?

    • Alison Garcia says:

Hi Adele, read the information posted on the reset, it will tell you exactly how to proceed. Following the instructions will absolutely bring optimal results. Best wishes for a successful reset! -Alison

    • Alison Garcia says:

Hi Lindsay, It actually says in the instructions “drink four or more low calorie low carb protein shakes throughout your day”, meaning a protein shake that is low calorie and low carb. Glad we could clarify for you!! -Alison

  50. Anne says:

I am nearing the end of my 48 hour pouch reset and have a question. I know we are not supposed to drink with meals, but how long after eating should we wait to resume our fluids?

    • Suzanne Shaw says:

This is a short term test to see if your Pouch or Sleeve is working. This is not a long term weight loss program. If you are breastfeeding it would be best to ask your Dr for guidance on how to safely fuel your body 🙂 Good luck to you!!
