Let’s be honest: holiday meals can be a lot. Between the food, the family, the love, it can feel like everyone suddenly becomes a part-time nutrition coach who just wants you to have a little more.

But when you’re focused on protein, comfort, and actually feeling good?
Cue the comments:
“That’s all you’re eating?”
“Come on, one more bite won’t hurt.”
“You look so different! How much have you lost?”

Take a breath. You don’t owe anyone an explanation.

Your plate, your body, your rules.
You deserve to feel proud of your choices and enjoy the day without guilt.

Here are three easy, realistic ways to respond without the awkwardness.

1. The Warm Thank-You

When someone offers food with love:
“Thank you! It looks amazing. I’m just starting with some protein for now, but I’ll grab a taste later.”

This keeps things friendly and shuts down the pressure without hurting feelings.

2. The Calm Redirect

When someone keeps pushing food or opinions:
“I’m good, really! I know what works for me right now. Anyway, how’s the new puppy?”

You’re changing the subject without making it weird.

3. The Body Boundary

When someone comments on your weight or appearance:
“I appreciate you noticing, but I’m really just focusing on feeling healthy and strong these days.”

If they keep going:
“I’m happy where I’m at, but I’d love to talk about something else. Tell me about your trip.”

Bottom line: You don’t need to earn your seat at the table by eating a certain way or looking a certain way.
Protect your peace, enjoy your food, and remember your journey isn’t up for discussion.
